Colour me Red
Jan 21, 2021
When I ask you to colour me red
I do not mean a bloodbath,
Or one which gives me a bestial wrath.
What I do desire is reverence instead.
When I insist on being coloured red
Neither do I demand a rosy path,
Nor do I require a recitation of Plath.
My only need is to live without being mislead.
Don’t paint me red if you can’t give me
A pure and private solace.
Ambition seems to have become an enemy.
Red brings me a hope of being truly free,
But don’t pour it over my holy embrace
If you can’t promise me regard for eternity.
P.S.- This is a Petrarchan Sonnet, following the rhyme scheme ABBA-ABBA CDE-CDE.
